Deadly Sniper
Yet another military weapon is being upgraded, this time its a M24 Sniper Rifle. What upgrades? Well nothing short of shooting Further, quieter and more accurately. The M24's barrel is being modified to shoot heavier .300 Winchester Magnum rounds, instead of the 7.62mm NATO ammunition, which should extend the rifle's maximum effective range by hundreds of yards to a maximum of about 1400 yards. The suppressor will reduce the
noise and flash of the gun so snipers can stay in their hiding positions much longer after they fire and snipe more baddies. The gun will also get a new chassis that provides the ability to attach accessories, especially much-needed night-
vision devices that clip on directly to the rail in front of the scope. The scope itself will be improved, adding a variable power system that can reach 16.5x to 25x magnification. The Gun will also get a rangefinder so troops will no longer have to perform calculations on distance.Awesome, i wouldnt want to be on the wrong side of this war.

3D Youtube
Yes, you read right, Youtube had implemented a quite upgrade about a year ago.And it was no lousy upgrade, youtube began to support 3D videos.Frankly speaking, i didnt even know about this until Gizmodo mentioned it. Well, Gizmodo did a interview with the guy behind youtube's 3D and here's a summary of what they talked about. The guy got the idea from somebody who had given him 3D glassess and said they worked for Youtube, Then he started to think about it more and more then eventually, he developed this new 3D thing in his spare time. And now Kaboom! we can see 3D videos using any 3D glassess on youtube. oh and here's how you can make use of the 3D option. To toggle the different ways you can view videos in 3D, you'll need to view them on YouTube, where they'll be equipped with a 3D pulldown menu

Movie Teasers
Well, hi, first and foremost, i would like to introduce our new author, Joseph. You'll see him post quite often i expect and i believe he will bring lots of interesting stuff to this blog. Anyways, authors aside here's a few movies that you can expect to see in the Cinemas. P.S some of them ARE already released so stay tuned for their reviews.
1. Prince of Persia and the sands of time.
This movie is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimar who produced a few other awesome films like 2010 and the day after tomorrow. The movie is a highly anticipated spin-off of the game which is called the same name. The Game's creater who is called Jordan Mechner was hired to write the script and he was quoted to say "Rather than do a straight beat-for-beat adaptation of the new videogame, we're taking some cool elements from the game and using them to craft a new story" Interestingly, the film was scheduled to be released a day after the release of Transformers, Revenge of the fallen.I do not know what went wrong but i suppose that it must be the special effects that delayed the film release date.Anyways, the film has finally scheduled an official release date which is the 28th of may 2010.Oh and here's the part you've been waiting for .The Summary.
Spoiler alert
Set in the mystical lands of Persia, a rogue prince (Jake Gyllenhaal) and a mysterious princess (Gemma Arterton) race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time -- a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world
Well, thats pretty much all to say about prince of persia and the sands of time so have fun :D

Ridley Scott's Robin Hood
“Robin Hood” is the latest presentation of Ridley Scott which is lives up to the works of its well-known character. It also hovers — but immediate from comfortable movies. Scott’s mismanaged matinee-worthy take on that heroic 13th-Century archer who aims England’s corrupt royal families isn’t closely as natural as everyone related with it reportedly beliefs. The excitement about how it bravely reinvents the love story winds up as truthful as that laundry-detergent alleges heralding a “new” “improved” product. There’s no scent of real freshness here
.
“Robinhood” has is basically a superhero story, magnificent with hissable villains, immense war episodes, complicated subplots; a hero with self-conscious childhood remembrances. Not a bad thing if implemented well .The masterful Scott manage well to maintain the fast-speed, assisting polished over flaw.
“Conclusion”
In the pantheon of “Robin Hood” movies, this is a safe and appropriate version. It will be released in cinemas on the 14th of may and it lasts a full 141 minutes. .

Phantom Ray
What do you know, Boeing, has unveiled a new unmanned airplane and its called the Phantom Ray.
Sounds cool eh? well it looks even slicker check out it's image at the side, looks like some sort spy plane we see in the movies. Its Primarily intended to serve as a reconnaissance and intelligence drone, this 36 foot-long airborne robot will be able to cruise at speeds of up to 614mph, and will even do a bit of suppression fire when you need it to. It's designed to be undetectable by radar and offers a minimal heat signature for missiles to lock on to, as its engine is buried deep within the body. Forget about those small radio controlled airplanes ,these airplanes are war machines.Designed to damage and spy, these robots are no toys.
oh and here's the press release
Boeing Unveils Unmanned Phantom Ray Demonstrator
ST. LOUIS, May 10, 2010 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] today unveiled the fighter-sized Phantom Ray unmanned airborne system, a test bed for advanced technologies.
"We are on a fast track, and first flight is in sight," said Darryl Davis, president of Boeing Phantom Works. "Phantom Ray is on schedule to fly in December, about two years after this project began. This is a tremendous accomplishment for Boeing and the Phantom Ray team."
Phantom Ray is scheduled to begin taxi tests this summer. The first flight in December will be followed by up to nine additional flights over approximately six months. Phantom Ray is designed to support potential missions that may include intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; suppression of enemy air defenses; electronic attack; strike; and autonomous aerial refueling.
"The initial flights will take Phantom Ray through its paces for the flight test profile. Beyond that, the missions and systems tested will be determined by future warfighter needs," said Craig Brown, Phantom Ray program manager for Boeing.
Phantom Ray, which evolved from the X-45C program, is one of several programs in the Phantom Works division of Boeing Defense, Space & Security. Phantom Works uses rapid prototyping initiatives to design, develop and build advanced aircraft and then demonstrate their capabilities.

Most Eco-Friendly Bulb?
What do u know here, Philiphs has created a new Eco-Friendly lightbulb and they're called EnduraLED Due in the fourth quarter of the year, the 60W equivalent at left sucks down only 12 watts of electricity but emits a reported 806 lumens of soft white light -- a ratio green enough to save the world. Cool eh? Bye Bye to global warming. Good job Philips. Thing is, these light bulbs do NOT come cheap, Philips Sales representative had been quoted to say that these EnduraLED bulbs are gona cost a small fortune, about $60 in green backs and $120 back here in Singapore. And that's just an estimation. Would u pay that much for a Light Bulb? Well lets hope the rest of the world would as these bulbs would actually cut the the world's energy usage by about 5% ? I'm imagining a sales man trying to sell these bulbs, i bet just when the people were going to buy and they hear about the price, they'll run lol.
Philips Unveils World's First LED Replacement for Most Common Household Light Bulb
LIGHTFAIR International 2010
"We challenged ourselves to answer the consumer call for an LED alternative that can mimic the traditional incandescent in light quality, shape and use, in a timeframe most did not think possible"
The significance of developing an LED equivalent to the 60 watt has been recognized by many international organizations, including the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE), who created the L-prize competition to spur development of this highly sought after innovation. Philips' entry was the first, and to date remains the only submission for the L-Prize, which was used as the basis for the 12 watt EnduraLED. Exceeding the Energy Star specifications for a 60 watt bulb, the EnduraLED uses only 12 watts of power while delivering an industry benchmark of 806 lumens.
Every year more than 425 million 60-watt incandescent light bulbs are sold in the United States, representing approximately 50% of the domestic incandescent light bulb market. According to calculations by Philips, this LED replacement has the potential to save 32.6 terawatt-hours of electricity in one year, enough to power the lights of 16.7 million U.S. households or 14.4% of the total number of households in the entire US. It would also eliminate the generation 5.3 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually.
The new lamp uses an innovative design and remote phosphor technology to deliver the same soft white light and shape consumers are familiar with in an incandescent. The EnduraLED works with standard dimmers, further simplifying use and allowing consumers to enjoy an effective, low energy solution for lighting in the home. For business users, particularly those within the hospitality sector, the new lamp will provide instant plug-in savings, through extended life and reduced energy and maintenance costs, in comparison with traditional bulbs.
Expanding on the Philips EnduraLED family of replacement lighting solutions, the new lamp has a rated life of 25,000 hours, as opposed to a standard 60 watt incandescent bulb which is rated at about 1,000 hours. This means that over the course of the LED life, replacing a 60 watt standard bulb could save a business or household $120 per lamp. It will be available in the U.S. in the fourth quarter of 2010, well ahead of U.S. legislation requiring the use of more energy efficient lighting which commences in 2012. The retail price of this EnduraLED has not yet been finalized.
"We challenged ourselves to answer the consumer call for an LED alternative that can mimic the traditional incandescent in light quality, shape and use, in a timeframe most did not think possible," said Rudy Provoost, CEO of Philips Lighting. "This milestone is even more impactful because we have been able to show people around the world that LED lighting can deliver energy efficiency and the warm white light people desire for their homes, without compromise to quality. This new bulb not only underscores our commitment to sustainability, it is a clear example of Philips' global leadership in lighting innovation."
To accelerate the EnduraLED's development and introduction to the market, Philips leveraged the expertise of scientists and lighting designers from around the globe; Philips researchers in The Netherlands created a new remote phosphorous technology and light distribution design, LUXEON LEDs were integrated from Philips Lumileds in San Jose, CA, and electronics for the bulb were built at Philips Color Kinetics in Burlington, MA and Philips Lighting Electronics in Rosemont, IL. From there, the bulbs were then sent to the Philips Quality Assurance team in Shanghai to be rigorously tested, ensuring they met exacting quality and safety standards.

3D HD Camera for Mobile devices Released
Well, Sharp sure has surprised all of us, they just announced that they have finish developing a 730p- recording 3D camera module, that means that is a camera capable of capturing 3D HD Videos/Pictures.
Its of cource intended for mobile devices like smartphones and point-and-shoot digicams, this miniature wonder will be sampling in July and hitting mass production before the end of the year.
Here's the Press release by the way.
Sharp Develops 3D Camera Module for Mobile Devices Capable of Capturing High-Definition 3D Video Images, an Industry First*1
Key Device to Make 3D Video Readily Available
Press Release
Sharp Corporation has developed a 3D camera module for mobile devices capable of capturing high-definition (720p*2) 3D video images, an industry first. Sharp will start shipping samples in July. Mass production of these modules will begin within 2010.
3D images are composed of two views taken using two cameras that simultaneously capture separate images for the right and left eyes. Consequently, a 3D camera requires peripheral circuitry to apply image processing to the two images, for example, to adjust color or to correct positioning between the images from the two cameras. Manufacturers have thus been pursuing designs that reduce the size and weight of 3D cameras and seeking ways to shorten their development period.
The current 3D camera module developed by Sharp incorporates functions to process the image data output by the left and right cameras, including Color Synchronizing Processing to adjust color and brightness, Timing Synchronizing Processing to synchronize the timing of the video signals, and Optical Axis Control Processing to correct positioning. In addition, Fast Readout Technology rapidly transfers video data from the image sensor, enabling 3D images to be captured in high-resolution HD mode. Further, in developing this camera module, Sharp applied high-density mounting technology nurtured over long years of experience in camera module development to achieve a compact form. Embedding this camera module in mobile devices such as digital cameras, mobile phones, and smartphones will contribute to the development of a wide range of new, innovative communications tools.
In the future, Sharp will be opening up new 3D markets based on 3D display technologies, including small/medium-size and large-size 3D LCDs, as well as on 3D input device technologies such as 3D camera modules.

Parachuting hero
If you're skydiving and your parachute fails, there's always a backup. But what if the backup fails, too? That's when you pray that you're jumping with a hero like Dave Hartsock, who risked his own life to save someone else's.
Hartsock was the instructor paired with Shirley Dygert for her first ever skydive—a challenge she undertook to celebrate her 54th birthday. But the jump took a nightmarish turn when their first parachute failed to fully deploy and the backup chute got tangled up along with it.
As they were plummeting toward the Earth at 40mph, Hartsock pulled the chutes' control handles to position himself underneath Dygert, hoping to break her fall when they hit the ground. His plan worked: Dygert walked away with only minor injuries, though Hartsock himself was left paralyzed. He's slowly regaining some feeling, but even in recovery he remains humble about his actions:
People keep telling me that it was a heroic thing to do...In my opinion it was just the right thing to do. I mean, I was the one who was completely responsible for her safety. What other choices were there?
Well, Personally I think that this guy is seriously heroic. People like him are hard to come by. So yeah do donate to him if you want to at sky diver hero. awesome-ness. On the other hand, im now afraid of parachute jumping even more.

Project Natal, Release
Yahooooooo! Microsoft has confirmed that their new Project Natal hardware add-on for the XBOX 360 is being released in the year of 2010 in OCTOBER. Yes OCTOBER, much earlier than expected. Dont believe what i am saying? here's a quote
Microsoft's marketing manager for Saudi Arabia says that the Natal launch,
"is going to be somewhere in October and we will be in a position to confirm the date at E3, which is in June, but definitely it is going to be October 2010."
Some of you readers will know what natal is but some of you are new so lemee get you up to date. You can check the archives for the other natal posts.
OK. Generally, the Natal is like Wii but WITHOUT any CONTROLLERS developed by microsoft.
How awesome is that? imagine folding your fingers into a gun shape and shooting , or driving a F1 by pretending to be turning a steering wheel! I imagine you would have to jump behind the sofa or something to take cover in some games that require you to do so. Anyways, here's a video demo

Twitterbug
I dont know how i missed this but here's the news, a few days ago some guy called Bora Kirka found out a bug with twitter. well twitter has tons of bugs whats so big about this bug? well, this bug allowed anyone to force any one to follow their accounts. Getting followers on twitter is like the main idea behind twitter, so this bug was very very serious. If you do not get what i mean, read this quote
"A Turkish guy named Bora Kırca figared out accidently that if you tweet "accept username", for example billgates, then bill gates will follow you.
it's so stupid; but true." - gizmodo
well radical eh? so for a few hours after gizmodo and some other blogs posted about it, [i was sleeping]
people were being forced followed by people so its like lady gaga following John Li or Barack Obama following Alibaba. When Twitter found out they went nuts, everyone's follow numbers shot to zero, and Bora's Twitter account was suspended. But how did he find this thing in the first place?
Bora LOVED this group called ACCEPT and he decided to twit this [ ACCEPT PWNT ] instead of that twit appearing, a person called pwnt started following him ! well how crazy is that? well after experimenting for awhile, he told his girlfriend and posted a blogpost regarding that and soon twitter was messed-up. imagine bill gates, obama, lady gaga, adam lambert following some guy you never heard of.
. Their official line so far is written like a bug report:
"We identified and resolved a bug that permitted a user to "force" other users to follow them. We're now working to rollback all abuse of the bug that took place. Follower/following numbers are currently at 0; we're aware and this too should shortly be resolved."
It seems obvious that this bug had been lingering for a while, and that it was just a matter of time before someone caught it. It also seems obvious that Twitter should have caught it before rolling the "ACCEPT" feature into the main site.
So for hours people had the power to force people to follow them.
In the end, Twitter will clean this up. But the fear will, and should, remain: What if this was a little worse? What if a command gave people access to others' Twitter accounts beyond the ability to force a follow? This was an inconvenience; that would have been a disaster.
So this was how a band called ACCEPT nearly destroyed twitter.Twitter sure is delicate.
"A Turkish guy named Bora Kırca figared out accidently that if you tweet "accept username", for example billgates, then bill gates will follow you.

Exam Tips.
Seeing that its the exam season again and most people around the world are taking their MYEs, me included. I find it appropriate to post some tips from all around the web to help you in your exams and hopefully, get higher marks or scores, whatever you like to call them. Anyway here are some of the tips with their respective credits given.
1. Eat a cooked egg with the yolk. Yolk is known to help increase brain and memorization productivity.
2. Sit with both feet flat on the ground. Although this may seem really simple, 90 percent of people sit with their legs crossed, or one foot slightly/fully off the ground the majority of the time. Sitting with both feet flat on the ground helps blood flow to the brain, and it is also less distracting.
3. When you are reading, use your finger to guide your eyes. The faster you move your finger, the faster your eyes move. Even though it may seem like you're skipping words fast, your brain puts together the missing words. Humans are logical. Not only does using a finger increase your reading speed by 300% +, but it also helps keep people focused. Most students tend to doze off in the middle of reading, but using a finger will help keep you focused.

oh and here's a few tips from yours truly. SLEEP EARLY. whoever invented the phrase burn midnight oil to revise had'nt tried it before. scientific studies had shown that you are more likely to remember what you have learned if you have had a good night’s sleep. oh and renember to be positive revising and doing the exam. negative thoughts will only demotivate you . Last of all, renember to at least flip your files or textbooks a lil because u cannot answer what u have no idea about. And GOOD LUCK.

The Great Oil Spill
You might have heard about the British petrolum's oil rig exploding and leaking tons of oil into the US gulf.
well you might have also heard about how british petrolum is trying to fix the leak and what effects the oil spill is having on the wildlife there. Well, just incase u had'nt heard about those yet, im here to bring you up to speed on all these stuff.
OK. On April 20th, there was an explosion on the BP-leased Deepwater Horizon, in which 11 staff died.
2 days later, the rig sank,80km from the south east of Venice. The riser pipe that had connected the rig to the wellhead now lies fractured on the seabed a mile below, spewing out oil at a rate at some 5,000 barrels, or 210,000 gallons, a day. The spill threatens economic and ecological disaster on Gulf Coast tourist beaches, wildlife refuges and fishing grounds. Well if the effects are so grave what is BP doing to try to contain it? well it has considered serveral options like using a oil spill containment dome. and building another rig to drain all the oil but that will take serveral months to build and it would be too late by then. so here's the details to the dome.
At the leak site, the device will be lowered by cable to the site of the leak. Once at the seafloor, underwater robots will place it on top of the larger of two remaining leaks.
* The chamber, 40 feet tall, 24 feet wide and 14 feet deep has steel shelf-like "mud flaps" on the side to ensure it doesn't sink more than 15 feet into the mud.
* The dual-pipe mechanism will allow warm water and a chemical, methanol, to be pumped into the space between the drill pipe and larger pipe. That is intended to counteract the possibility of ice- or sludge-like plugs in the larger pipe that could hinder or stop the flow of oil to the ship. Such plugs can form from natural gas, 3,000 cubic feet of which is in each leaking barrel of oil.
A second containment chamber is being built at Wild Well Control in Port Fourchon, Louisiana, to later be placed atop the second leak. In the meantime, underwater robots will continue trying to manipulate valves on the blowout preventer to stop both leaks at the main source.
Unfortunatedly, that doesnt seem to be working. The dome which had sounded like a great idea is failing. A buildup of crystallized gas in the dome forced engineers to delay efforts to place the huge containment device over the rupture and funnel leaking oil to a waiting drillship.
Hundreds of boats deployed protective booms and used dispersants to break up the oil again on Sunday, but rough seas are threathening to distrupt the efforts
Forecasts show the giant oil slick moving west, as brisk onshore winds blow from the southeast through next weekend.

Ironing Man
With the release of iron man 2. Many people who have not watched Iron Man 1 would have started watching it by now. with all the adverising for iron man 2 on TV, its a wonder ironman 2 hadnt grossed as much as avatar in its first week. Anyways, if you havent watched iron man, you probably shouldnt watch iron man 2 because the story line is sleek :D. As i said, iron man has attracted so much media attention that some guys from Figment films decided to do a parody of the trailer of Iron Man 1 and they have named it Ironing man. Its pretty awesome all things considered and i rate it 10/10. Totally makes me feel like watching Ironing man, too bad its not real lol.

RoboGames 2010
By now you should have known that i like to post about almost everything that's happening or had happened.
well here's another thing that has happened. it was totally awesome but i was not there to view it live.
What is it? well it was the RoboGames 2010, it was held in San franscisco
From april 23 to the 25th. well whats so unique about this robotics competition? thing is, its not one of those plastic lego bots that you usually see in school, its metal robots who are set to kill or destroy each other, on some instances, the robots have flamethrowers and usually, sparks will be produced. occassionally robots burst into flames. How cool is that? anyway here's one of the most awesome videos of this year's RoboGames 2010 competition
Post created with reference from www.robogames.net . oh and robotics is timeless!

The Millitary's Deadliest Weapon yet.
"Kaching" Boom!, whats that i hear? oh its a weapon, hello readers, today you'll learn about the US army's deadliest hand weapon to date. the XM25 . *pauses for dramatic effect*anyway its a grenade launcher that has been developed by heckler&koch yes grenade launcher,
You must be wondering, pah another grenade launcher, what's good about that?. well read this
"The xm25 can fire 25mm rounds that explode at any distance set by the soldier, killing people protected behind walls or trenches. "
well if that's not a weapon of mass destruction, i dont know what is.
Anyways, what else can this WMD do? well here's the list
• Imagine there is an enemy sniper hiding behind a window in a building.
• The soldier points the weapon to the building's façade, measuring the distance.
• Using two buttons on the front handle, he would then add whatever distance he estimates is the correct one to get the 25mm round through the window and into the room, near the enemy.
• Then he would fire. The smart round knows where it is at all times thanks to its built-in circuitry.
• When the round reaches the distance set by the soldier, it would explode, killing the enemy with a fragmentation warhead. The round doesn't really have to be very near the enemy. Its blast radius is equivalent to a hand grenade, so these things are extremely dangerous, and almost impossible to survive.
How awesome is that? i wouldnt want to be the enemy !
anyways, this weapon is a reality or will be a reality in the afghanisian war and will be used by the green berets sooner or later, wheather it will save more lives or destroy more lives, i dont know but one thing's for sure, this weapon is sure gona put a new spin into the war.

1 I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn’t work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.
